When you think of a step mom, what comes to mind? Cinderella?
This fairy tale created a skewed picture of the wicked-witch stepmother.
Real life is different than a fairy tale, but the misconceptions surrounding stepmothers still are there. Maybe by considering today's society and its needs, step moms can step out of the fairy tales and become an asset to their step children's informative years.
Unfortunately, no formula is foolproof.
There will be missteps, misunderstandings, and pitfalls because you and your husband, their dad, may not have the children fulltime . . it might even be only every other weekend and holidays.
So do not forget to make the best of the time they are with you.
The most important trait to remember is you. Your husband, their dad, and you are together and it is now the time to become that blended family.
Relish the weekends together, take lots of pictures, create memories, and relive moments whenever appropriate to help them realize their home-away-from-home is important and relevant in their lives.
Do not compare, contrast, or criticize one over the other -- just let them know how lucky they are to have so many opportunities at their disposal.
